STAR HISTORY
Independently run by three Texas astrologers, the South Texas Astrology Retreat – aka STAR – was formed as an alternative to the large conference model, providing quality speakers in an intimate retreat environment. STAR is committed to providing high quality Traditional Astrology education in an intensive workshop setting, at affordable prices, to create strong community and knowledgeable astrologers.
Melanie Schlossberg: Houston, TX
Melanie spent her early days in Kingston, NY looking over astrology charts with her mother on the sales floor of her family’s scuba diving shop. She continued her interest in the topic while studying at Syracuse University where she gained a BFA in Metalsmithing. She completed The Astrology Institute’s certification program and holds a level 3 certification from NCGR. As well as being a practicing astrologer, she is an artist and graphic designer. Her current work includes a complete set of illustrations of the classical constellations for the upcoming release of Starlight V.2 and an on-going series of paintings examining the life cycles of plants.
Maria Mateus: Austin, TX
Maria, originally born in Lisbon, Portugal, has a deep interest in astrological research, history, languages, and ancient techniques. She graduated with a BA in psychology from the University of Texas and holds an MA degree from Kepler College of Astrological Arts and Sciences. Maria’s astrological writings have been published nationally and abroad and she is a frequent speaker at astrological conferences. She teaches with the Online College of Astrology and locally in South Texas. In addition to her astrological writing, Maria is a creative writer, translator, teacher and world cup gambler.
John Cole: Austin, TX
Originally from California, John’s background includes work in the music industry and web technologies. Learned in Vedic, traditional, and contemporary astrology practices, John is a fearless local astrology organizer. Thanks to his martial arts training – John successfully worked with several local astrological groups including the Astrological Society of Austin and National Council of Geocosmic Research. John will provide all the tech support for the retreat including the Saturday night campfire.
